Standard 6: Demonstrates competence in classroom management.
6 a. Creates a positive learning environment: social interaction and self-regulation.
The Beginning of the Year Emergency Resource Bag Nothing works like a "goodie" bag for getting students' attention and making a point about behavioral expectations.. This bag also tells students that they belong, are accepted, and that they will be taken care of.
6 b. Communicates, models and maintains standards of responsible behavior.
Students at a Celebratory Pizza Party When students demonstrate responsible behavior by having a good trimester, we celebrate by enjoying foods from The Pizza Ranch. It gives the associates and me a chance to just visit with the students and practice social skills. Think Before you Speak Poster in Classroom I have various posters throughout the classroom that remind students of behavioral expectations.
6 c. Classroom procedures support high expectations for student learning.
The Leaderboard The Leaderboard lets students know exactly which skill they are working on and where they stand in relation to other students in the class. It motivates them to work hard to achieve their goals.
6 d. Use of instructional time maximizes student achievement.
The Leaderboard The Leaderboard allows students to move on to a new skill once they have mastered the current skill. All students are working at their own pace, so no time is wasted..
6 e. Creates a safe and purposeful learning environment.
Character Cross-Stitch Sampler I like to have various things throughout the room that remind students of behavioral expectations. I feel it makes them feel secure that they can anticipate what to expect from me and what behavior will be tolerated or not from other students in the classroom. The Leaderboard The Leaderboard is a visual reminder of our purpose in math class- to be on task and learning as many new math skills and concepts as possible.
